Diane Stottlemyer: Charlatan and Liar
So, DOCTOR Diane, just how many degrees have you bought?
As will be noted on this page, Capella University hires and knowingly
retains "instructors," such as Diane Stottlemyer, who
have literally purchased their "degrees" from diploma
mills. In Stottlemyer's case, Capella University was not only aware
of that she bought her bogus degrees, but allowed her
to
"teach" - for several years after they found out!
Even now, Kurt Linberg, Capella's incompetent "Executive Director" of
Capella's School of Business and School of Technology refers to
her as "Doctor
Stottlemyer." Both
Linberg and Stottlemyer are now part of a lawsuit against
Capella University for discriminating and
retaliation against students who have spoken out about the illegal
and unethical activities at Capella.
Important Note!
Due to the ever-increasing number of "degrees" that Diane
Stottlemyer claims to have, it has become nearly impossible for us
to keep track of them. Therefore, we are having to redesign this
page in order to accommodate all of them! Please pardon the dust
as it's accumulating faster than we can work!
List of Degrees That Are Attributed to Diane Stottlemyer
The following is an incomplete list because, every time we look,
we find that Diane has even more degrees! As noted, we're rearranging
and updating this page to account for all of her "degree."
Associate Degree
Diane proudly lists her AA Degree (more than likely, a real one):
- AA - Pasco Hernando Community College
Bachelor Degrees
Oh, so many bachelor degrees! Now, all Diane needs now are a few
more (such as a BFA and a BM) in order to complete her set!
- BA - Indiana University
- BGS (Bachelor of General
Studies) - Indiana University
- BS - Indiana University
Masters Degrees
Hmm...in addition to her bogus Lacrosse MS, she claims to have
another one from California State University, Dominguez Hills
(online program). Not surprisingly, she continues to report her
"Master's and Ph.D." from Lacrosse long after she apparently started
at CSUDH.
- Master's (Type not listed) - Lacrosse University (a
diploma mill)
- Master's (Type and school not listed)
- MSQA ("in the process of completing" - i.e., not yet earned)
- California State University, Dominguez Hills
- MS - Lacrosse University
(a diploma mill)
- MS - California State University
- MS - California State University, Dominguez Hills (Impressive!)
- MBA - "Northcentral University" - the "school" that was started in a garage!
Doctoral Degree(s)
DOCTOR Diane has touted her bogus Ph.D. from Lacrosse since 2001.
Even her buddy, Kurt Linberg, Capella's incompetent dean
of their School of Technology, continued to refer to her as "Dr.
Stottlemyer" even when she was still using her bogus degrees that she bought from a diploma mill!
- Ph.D. - Lacrosse University (a diploma mill)
- Ph.D. - "Northcentral University" - the "school" that was started in a garage that has NO CLASSES, NO PROFESSORS, and NO RESIDENCY!
Diane Stottlemyer bought her "degrees" from a diploma mill, Lacrosse
University!
As to be expected of unethical and incompetent people everywhere,
Diane Stottlemyer had no problem buying her "degrees" and
using them to deceive others. In fact, we have yet to determine with
any confidence what, if any, real degrees she does
have. One thing that is certain, Stottlemyer did buy a "master's" and
a "doctorate"
from Lacrosse University and has falsely listed these "degrees" in
a variety of places. To begin with, there are a couple of excellent
references to the fact that Lacrosse is a diploma mill - a
report to the United States House of Representatives, dated September
2004, and an article that
appeared in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, dated
August 1, 2004. Sadly, it is not known if the article is still available
at the Times, due to Hurricane Katrina but it is available through
most public library databases - we've
reprinted the article, Mailbox U. on this site for those that
are interested.
Government Accountability Office
(GAO) Report to Congress
on Diane Stottlemyer's Alma Mater
In a blistering report (September 2004) on Diploma
Mills to United States House of Representatives, the
Government Accountability Office (GAO) had a lot to say
about Diane Stottlemyer’s
alma mater, Lacrosse University. We've provided a
copy of the complete report here. The following excerpt
shows that Diane Stottlemyer did not take any courses for
her "master's or doctorial 'degrees'," she merely paid
for them:
|
“Purporting to be a prospective student, our
investigator placed telephone calls to three schools
that award academic credits based on life experience
and require no classroom instruction: Barrington University
(Mobil, Alabama), Lacrosse University (Bay St. Louis,
Mississippi); and Pacific Western University (Los Angeles,
California). . . School representatives emphasized to
our undercover investigator that they are not in the
business of providing, and do not permit students to
enroll for, individual courses or training. Instead,
the schools market and require payment for degrees on
a flat-fee basis.”

Let's examine some of the additional facts pertaining to this
matter:
- According to a forum found elsewhere on the Internet , DOCTOR
Diane Stottlemyer's purchase was outlined quite some time
ago. Interestingly, that thread is entitled, "A
time bomb waiting to explode at Capella." Well Diane
and Capella, it looks like your bomb has finally exploded!
Boom!
Impressed? We're not!
- DOCTOR Stottlemyer's bio in a catalog for the illustrious CALCampus
International Online Learning Center (whew, what an impressive
name!) lists the following:
Note that DOCTOR Diane Stottlemyer lists a "Ph.D.
in Computer Science, Lacrosse University!" (Please
bow in order to observe a moment of respect.) For
those interested in following Doctor Diane's footsteps,
you should contact Lacrosse
University." Currently,
doctorates at Lacrosse are selling for slightly
more than one class with DOCTOR Stottlemyer at
Capella - a
mere
$2700. Dr. Stottlemyer; however, took advantage
of their quantity discount - while it is estimated
that she purchased her master's and doctoral
"degrees for a a paltry $2,200 a few years ago,
Lacrosse is currently offering the same package
for a measly $3100.
- Another
biography for Diane Stottlemyer appears in the
book, "Debugging
ASP.NET"
(ISBN 0-7357-1141-0), published by Financial Times Prentice
Hall, DOCTOR Stottlemyer "is presently an online teacher
for Learning Tree, Capella University, Connected University,
Franklin University, CalCampus, and ElementK. She enjoys teaching
online and feels her diverse background enables her to teach
many different courses and add variety to them. . .Diane feels
that her biggest strength [have you ever seen a "small
strength?"]
is to present the student materials with life skills
and to help her students understand the material so they can
process it and use it. Diane is also an adjunct professor for
Mary Baldwin College." Impressive,
to say the least!
- The 2005-2006
Franklin University Directory, notes only Stottlemyer's
impressive Bachelor's of General Studies (BGS) degree
from Indiana University. Interestingly, Lacrosse University
is now out of the picture. Funny, to say the least, that
Capella University still refers to her as "Doctor
Stottlemyer" and
yet her "degrees" seem to be disappearing! Hmmm. . .
