Bruce Weiss , "Executive Director" of the School of Psychology

Capella's School of Psychology has been trying unsuccessfully, for several years, to obtain accreditation from the American Psychological Association. Not only that, but there are students who have enrolled at this "school" and, like all other Capella students learners, have paid an enormous amount of money for courses that they believe will help lead them to new careers, only to find out that their degree is worthless!

While Bruce Weiss, personally, doesn't provide us with too much entertainment value, we still urge readers to view the transcripts of his interview with the United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) that were obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

Some of Bruce Weiss' comments about the two students who were subjected to the School of Psychology's Academic Standards Committee (Kangaroo Court) from his interview with OCR are quite enlightening! Other highlights not mentioned elsewhere include:

• "The School of Psychology has a standing ASC [Kangaroo Court] for reviewing grade appeals, plagiarism, and comportment issues." Gosh, that's very nice - your counterpart for the School of Technology, Kurt Linberg simply creates his Kangaroo Courts on-the-fly to abuse students learners in Capella's School of Technology.
• Bruce Weiss "explained that when students begin behaving in ways that interrupt the educational process, it is best to try and end it quickly." Well, Bruce, if you really mean that then perhaps you need to learn about academic freedom and freedom of speech! A classroom, especially at the graduate level, is one that should strongly encourage dissension and heated debate, not stifle it! But, then again, Capella is a "nice" school.
• "The University is still new [only been around since 1993!] and that not all the Schools have a standing ASC [Kangaroo Court]. He believes that as the University ages, there will be more standardization of practices throughout." Oh, please don't make us laugh! You simply can't be serious! One thing for sure is that the School of Technology doesn't have a standing Academic Standards Committee (is that an oxymoron?) and that they also ignore existing written university policies when they abuse their students! Perhaps the School of Psychology should study the all of the compulsive liars that are employed by Capella University!
• Bruce Weiss states that when students are abused by a Kangaroo Court at Capella University, those "who are unhappy with the recommendation of the ASC and resulting decision by the Executive Director or Dean can appeal the decision to the Provost." Oh PLEEEASE Bruce, you don't really mean that, do you?! After all, Capella's Provost, Karen Viechnicki, is not only an extraordinary liar but she also refuses to acknowledge students who rightfully complain to her. If you really believe this statement, Bruce, then we've got some prime Florida swampland to sell to you!
